187 reps think protecting voting rights is a bad idea

Yes, and we notice what Party they are all from……

Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll find out (since this Act, like most House bills this session, is likely doomed to interment in the legislative mausoleum that is Mitch McConnell’s inbox) - but I wonder if HR4 was crafted to get around CJ Roberts’ cavils about the 1965 VRA that led him to strike down (what I think was most of it)?

And by the way, mainstream media was absolutely complicit in spreading the “Planned Parenthood sells baby parts” fraud. They treated this ludicrous claim as if it was legitimate from the very start, and only turned on Daleiden when it started to fall apart.

Because in the end they don’t care a rat’s ass about truth, they just knew it was a fat, juicy story that would really pique people’s interest and attract viewers.

” A town has canceled its annual Christmas parade over fears that protesters and supporters of its inclusion of Confederate groups would clash. After more than 70 years, the town of Wake Forest, North Carolina will not have a parade at all this holiday season.

The Confederacy float has been a “peaceful” part of the Wake Forest Christmas parade for decades, the town said. Now, planned protests surrounding its participation have led to safety concerns by officials.

“The Wake Forest Downtown Board of Directors voted to cancel this year’s Christmas parade due to the threat of violence by groups outside our community,” Mayor Vivian Jones said in a tearful Facebook video Wednesday night. She said she was “angry, disappointed and heartbroken,” but ultimately supportive, over the decision. …”

Was just reading an article over at Politico last night where the Senate Repubs have been described as “throwing cold water” on the idea of bringing the Bidens in as “witnesses.” The reality in the Senate is even less favorable to the Repubs than it is in the House: Even though they’re the majority party there, they still have to pass a bill outlining the way the “trial” there will be conducted. And it is one that will be negotiated with Schumer rather than imposed upon him and the minority party, including which witnesses will be called during the proceedings. And with a 53 seat majority reliant upon several vulnerable Repubs to maintain party ranks, McConnell will be left walking a very narrow path to getting the whole mess done.

This is all a long-winded way of saying that there’s virtually no chance that the House Repubs are going to get the show trial in the Senate that they desperately want. Every indication is that Graham and McConnell intend to focus their “defense” upon the idea that the investigation was started in “bad faith” and thus Trump is the victim of a “conspiracy.”

- the senate itself has already debunked this nonsense

- there are no federal rules of evidence. it matters not one whit whether the investigation was started in good faith or not. there is no fruit of the poisonous tree

the only thing that matters is what happened.

ps - the response to a ‘bad faith’ investigation is to show up and testify. not withholding 100% of doc requests and ordering everybody not to testify

What’s sad is that disapproval of the House of Saud used to be a bipartisan position, that while we might accept (reluctantly) the need for an ally in the region, we still felt that they did too little to combat terrorism and too much to promote it.

I say “used to” because then Jan 2017 came and roughly a quarter of the nation suddenly decided that being best buds with the House of Saud was cool if Donald Trump was promoting it.

I agree: apparently the Navy program the shooter was enrolled in has had “hundreds” of Saudi trainees over the years (they seem to have been the main beneficiaries of it): it has been described (AFAICT) as a “classroom shooting”-type incident: so it probably IS just an individual flipping out, rather than a “terrorist” assault. But I’m sure we’ll find out.

there are no differences of opinion if you dont participate

as i’ve said, trump is 99.99% going to be impeached.
that’s a stain for all time
a vote to ‘not remove’ by the senate does not change the impeachment. he becomes 1 of 4, and possibly the fastest ever.

if he truly wanted to protect his legacy, he should have tried to cooperate early on to try to avoid being impeached. or negotiate…something. instead he poked the House in the eye and said FU

Tabs are important for fretted/stringed instruments because unlike a piano, there is more than one way to play a particular note, and it is important to know which fret/string combination to use to reach them.

With the release of the report from the House Intelligence Committee on their impeachment hearings, Trump’s enablers are outraged that Representative Adam Schiff got access to the phone records of key players in Giuliani’s extortion scheme. According to Byron York, of particular concern is the fact that those records include telephone calls by John Solomon.

Helpful I f you’re trying to keep track of who’s who in the Ukraine corruption scandal

This, from the 10/18 Kyiv Post, only has a small portion of the crooks. It doesn’t have KGB-trained Andrii Derkach, who Giuliani met yesterday, or Oleksandr Onyshchenko, who was arrested just today. It doesn’t even have Paul Manafort. You’d need a much bigger page to keep track of every one of these crooks.

hey pat:

- the constitution does not address fairness nor due process w/r/t impeachment. those concepts are not constitutionally relevant.

a constitutionally ‘baseless’ impeachment could not ‘succeed’.

your choosing not to participate is similar though not equivalent to a defendant choosing not to put on a defense.

a defendant might win a not guilty plea with that tactic.

trump will never be ‘not impeached’

bloomberg:

While the president said the Environmental Protection Agency was looking at the standards “at my suggestion,” a review of the WaterSense program was mandated under 2018 legislation passed by Congress that said the agency should look at any regulations adopted before 2012. That means the government is forced to revisit specifications for tank-type toilets, lavatory faucets and faucet accessories, showerheads, flushing urinals, and weather-based irrigation controllers.

vox makes it clear:

Trump and his Republican supporters in Congress have sought to portray the efforts of the president and Giuliani to cajole the Ukrainian government into announcing investigations into the Bidens as being rooted in the president’s good-faith concerns about “corruption,” rather than his own political self-interests.

But Giuliani’s tweet reveals the hollowness of that talking point.
“Corruption” is just a stand-in word for “Biden.” He doesn’t even try to hide it.

If that’s a recent photo, probably not: Wikipedia says the original (stone, with a metal [likely bronze? iron?] weevil - added later) was replaced in 1998 after repeated vandalism damaged the statue. The existing piece is resin (composition of bug not mentioned).

ADD: OK: the original BWM was described as “metal” - and the “Greek lady“‘s basin originally had a fountain spraying out of it. Later replaced with the weevil (several times).
But: DD: probably not Saint-Gaudens: the monument’s organizer is said to have ordered it from Italy.

When my brother was about 10 my dad built a small backyard ramp for him and his friend to ride their bikes over (they wore those really safe, protective 1960s Sears plastic football helmets, too!). Actually, that’s not quite true. My husband had a good year in the early 70s, and we got married and put a stop to that! And those excuses? They are true! Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too much production, machinery breakdowns at the wrong time. We even had a grain elevator go bankrupt with our soybean crop in it. The manager looked us straight in the eye the morning before they collapsed in the afternoon, and swore we would be covered. We were not. They have since changed the law! There is always something!
